THE AMERICAN DISCUSSION

The day it happened… He stood at the podium and spoke words that questioned his patriotism and ‘The Conversation’ took a critical turn. Why is there a need to add patriotism and of all things racism to the discussion again… The premise that patriotism and racism is always a part of the conversation merits time in the discussion. However, there are so many aspects to this conversation to understand its core, you must go back to America’s inception and trace its path to this moment in time. There one will not only better understand who America is, but further ask, has America come ‘full circle’. Moreover, you must also understand that prophetic words can come from strange bedfellows. The messenger’s motive may seem deceptive, but if one listens carefully, one would get the ‘jest’ of what is being said.

The disgruntled preacher, in attempting to convey his hurts and views of the conditions of the America he lives in, spoke words provoking the uprising of what had been taboo on the lips and to the ears of the American people. The indictment was so profound and too erroneous to be true that America could not stop talking. For days, they spoke about racism, terrorism, and black and white. Had America been damned or were the words spoken by the preacher to impugn the hearts of all who would take heed and consider the chaos of America’s present state of mind. America was not only slowly slipping from its honor, knowingly as the greatest nation in universal view, but was in its own providence suffering an economical breakdown and a disabling political system that saw things only left or right. Some were even insisting ‘if you weren’t white you weren’t right,’ an idiocy that had come to the forefront and needed extirpating.

America had been talking since 1776 mind you, talking about things like what the founding fathers did and what the constitution indeed means. America had been talking for a long time… And what do you know, some 400 years later, America began talking about the first black ‘Democratic Presidential’ nominee and if America was ready for a black president. In addition, the first female ‘Republican vice Presidential’ nominee also made history. Makes you wonder why some Americans think only white American men can be president. Can you believe it! Is this a Jim Crow attitude or the good old boys networking here. The conversation in it’s profoundness followed true to itself. America had begun talking about just about everything. You missed your place just by blinking. Talking about old and young, male gender and women rights. Should you not forget the 85 million cracks in the ceiling pander. About antisemitism, race and racism. Gay marriages and civil union.  The right to bear Adarms and guns and killings, laws and by-laws, religion, politics and elections. What about drill baby drill…ing for oil, gas, and all kinds of energy. Some listening and some hearing. Oh there is the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Israel being nuked and bam bam Iran. Russia venting its powers, while showing its true colors, that somehow made us all ‘Georgians’.

Words like humanity and genocide, third world and aliens, immigrants, borders and even the homeless. Add home lost, job lost and hopelessness, home construction and banks dysfunction, these are all being used in the same breath. And more than most money, stocks and bonds, shares and shareholders. Then there is the Fanni Mae and Freddi Mac, sound like the ‘rich and famous’ family relations. Bears and Sterns… that is trillions of dollars one could never earn. Though some are billionaires and the not so millionaires and debts, and credit and credit scores. And it would be redundant should it not be mention… Blacks in America and  The Latino influence. There is the Blackberry, pinkberries and you name it berries. How about education, insurance and health-care. Why America is even talking about Green. What is ‘Green’ anyhow? Could it mean ‘Greener on the other side’ or owning green acres. Just in-case you did not know, it is the environment. They’re even using old idioms like ‘being in the red’. Red! Red means danger. No … it is the economy stupid! They call it ‘ISSUE # ONE’. And how about protecting the taxpayer and the taxpayer’s money. Sound like a joke huh! Judges, judging, justice and peace. Why even the media is commenting on itself with ‘Journalism and media bias’. Why that is putting spin on a spin. Chutzpah, what do you know! Flipping, flopping, and even flip-flopping. One can go on and on and on and one would never get to the end.
